Hyperglycemia
Hyperglycemia is higher than normal blood glucose (blood sugar). Chronic hyperglycemia, where blood glucose levels are higher than they should be, may lead to a variety of complications over the years. Experts disagree about the specific blood glucose level they should use to diagnose diabetes, and through the years, that number has changed. Generally speaking, a fasting blood glucose level of 99 mg/dL is normal; 100 to 125 mg/dL is pre-diabetes; and above 126 mg/dL is diabetes.
