Cytomegalovirus
Cytomegalovirus (CMV), a common infection that is usually harmless, is one of the group of viruses that includes herpes simplex, varicella-zoster (causes chickenpox and shingles), and Epstein-Barr (causes infectious mononucleosis). Most people have no symptoms and may not even know that they have been infected. Others may develop a mild illness with fever, sore throat, fatigue, and swollen glands. CMV can be transmitted from a pregnant woman to her baby. It is also spread by close contact with a person who has the virus in saliva, urine, or other body fluids.
