Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a disease marked by reduced bone strength leading to an increased risk of fractures and is the major underlying cause of fractures in postmenopausal women and the elderly. Bones affected by osteoporosis may become so fragile that fractures occur spontaneously or as the result of minor bumps or falls. Many people think that osteoporosis is a natural and unavoidable part of aging, but experts now believe that it is largely preventable. Furthermore, people who already have osteoporosis can take steps to slow its progress and reduce their risk of fractures.
